From time immemorial the wedding is one of the most important moments of life. And you need some proper preparation in order to be the wedding you have ever dreamt of.

In the past and nowadays Bulgarian wedding consists of two „cycles“; engagement and real wedding. Both in engagement and wedding there is a lot of drama and especially in the wedding there mingled symbolic, magic and literature elements (drama, music, poetry and choreography). When your relationships are no more a secret for the commons for a while everyone impatiently keeps an eye on what is going on. After that they ask: „When are you going to marry?“

Then you yourself began to think on that. At the end you receive a wedding proposal or you propose to the beloved one.
The moment to inform the parents comes. You may simply tell them: „Dear parents! You know that we love each other for a long time and now we decided to get marry.“ You can choose the variant romantic dinner for two or to gather the two families to discuss the upcoming event. During the engagement the groom gives his beloved a ring which she wears on her left hand.

The bridegroom must choose by themselves the first witnesses if they have no family such or if the groom has no godfather. The tradition ordains that the bridegroom must carry sweet rakia, cake and a box of chocolates to the godfather and a bouquet to the godmother. Together they talk over about the date and place of the wedding. The first witnesses are obliged to buy: veil and wedding bouquet for the bride, ceremonial candles, glasses and champagne, round loaf. Also: a decorated bottle of wine and a bowl of honey for the ceremony in the church. The traditional gift from the first witnesses is a dinner set.
